Informa’s Global Exhibitions Division Supports ‘Global Exhibitions Day'

Industry-wide initiative designed to raise awareness of economic impact of $29bn market for tradeshows 

London, 8 June 2016: Informa’s Global Exhibitions division noted it is supporting a new industry awareness initiative called Global Exhibitions Day that highlights the economic impact of the international exhibitions market, including employment, and its proven value as one of the most effective forms of corporate marketing.

The initiative, launched in 2016, is the industry’s first co-ordinated celebration of the value of the international exhibitions market. According to industry consultants AMR International, the exhibitions market was valued at $29bn in 2014 and will grow at an annualised rate of 4.5% between 2014 and 2019. Meanwhile, UFI the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, estimates that the industry employs 680,000 full time roles.

Charlie McCurdy, CEO of Global Exhibitions and former chairman of the Society of Independent Show Organizers, commented, “This is an important industry initiative. Corporate marketers consistently report that exhibiting at an industry event is one of the most effective methods of marketing. The largest exhibitions in each specialist sector become a must-attend forum where products are launched, relationships made, agreements signed and contracts won.”

He added, “The importance of the exhibitions market to global marketers will only increase in the years ahead. Not only are there significant benefits to be gained from increased digitalisation, but face-to-face media is critical for many communities, particularly international industries with large supply chains, where it can be difficult to make connections when customers are more global and communications more virtual.”
